KEEPING the winter chills at bay for those less fortunate has been Ernie Harrison’s mission for the past two decades.
While the concept was introduced by Mr Harrison when he began work at the Donald Simpson Community Centre as manager (DSCC) in 1997, his retirement three years ago has done nothing to stop the cause.

DSCC manager Thomas Jithin said about 700 blankets were expected to be donated as part of this year’s Ernie Harrison Blanket Drive, which was launched last Friday.
“It’s so anyone going through tough times can get a blanket for free,” Mr Jithin said.
He said the blankets collected would be given to community hubs for distribution. These included the Bay Island Community Centre, Champions Church and the Redland Community Centre.
But blankets are not the only thing wanted, with scarves also accepted as great winter warmers.
