Ormiston business owner Alison Rogers has won a $10,000 social media challenge during Queensland Small Business Week.
Ms Rogers, the director of Vocal Manoeuvres Academy, will use the money to connect singers across the state online, creating a virtual choir.
She will also work with mentors through the state government’s Mentoring for Growth program.
The challenge required businesses to film and submit an innovative, unique and efficient idea that detailed how they could make their business thrive.
Small Business Minister Leeanne Enoch said there had been many outstanding entries to the challenge.
“I was truly proud of the quality and imagination of the ideas so many Queenslanders have to make their business thrive,” she said.
Ms Rogers said the social media challenge was an acknowledgement of the significant impact small business had in Queensland.
“At the Vocal Manoeuvres Academy we know that everyone has a voice and there are melodies in each of us that deserve to be heard,” she said.
“Winning this challenge, we will be able to explore ways to elicit voices from across this vast state and harmonise them in this symphony of humanity via a virtual choir.”
Rebecca Burrows, the general manager small business of sponsor Australia Post, said entries had come from businesses as diverse as hairdressers, designers and automotive, to food, health and business services from across the state.
“The judging panel was most impressed with Ms Rogers’ entry because it demonstrated the impact of online and digital technologies in creating virtual communities,” she said.
Ms Enoch announced Ms Rogers as the winner at a Future of Connectivity roundtable at the State Library of Queensland on Friday.
The roundtable was a key event of Queensland Small Business Week.
