NEW York-based movie producer and actor Felipe Dieppa says he has fallen in love with the Redlands and recommends the city for other movie makers.
Mr Dieppa is executive producer for In Like Flynn, a movie about Errol Flynn, who steals the Sirocco, a yacht belonging to Chinese opium smugglers, in 1930 and sails up the Australian east coast heading for Papua New Guinea.
Mr Dieppa said being in Redlands enabled them to avoid going to remote locations where infrastructure was not available.
“Often times when we look for a location like this that has something specific like open water or jungle or mountains we have to go so far away from infrastructure and so far away from community, which is actually what a film really loves...”
The actor and producer of Dan in Real Life, Supporting Characters and Operator fame said the Redlands was beautiful, there were people to help and things for actors to do.
“This is such an ideal spot and it’s gorgeous,” he said.
“If you want just open ocean water, there’s all that out here, which is rare,” he said.
“It’s really hard to find.”
Mr Dieppa said the Redlands was far from what he was used to in New York.
“If you want to live by the water and live in a nice area I would recommend maybe one of these beautiful homes which I am totally in love with all of a sudden and slightly envious of.”
Flynn is played by Australian actor Thomas Cocquerel, of Red Dog: True Blue and Kidnapping Mr Heineken fame.
Scenes from Flynn’s exploits in Papua New Guinea were shot at Mount Tamborine last month.
“The people who are not from here couldn’t have imagined us finding that close to a nice coffee shop which is what Mount Tamborine offers and it was amazing,” Mr Dieppa said.
“What a unique place that area was it was stunning. It was incredible to be there.”
The 100-strong crew have been shooting on Moreton Bay this week, which is the last week of filming for the $12 million production.
