THE state government anticipates passengers will spend less time travelling once the Victoria Point bus station is moved to a more central location.
Assistant Transport Minister Glenn Butcher said the new station would be built on vacant land on Cleveland-Redland Bay Road, between Bunker Road and the Victoria Point Shopping Centre access road.
“The new station will be in a more central location and will give customers better access to a wider range of community facilities and reduce their travel time,” Mr Butcher said.

The station will have platforms on both sides of the road, with access via pedestrian crossings at Bunker Road and the access roads.
“The new location will deliver time savings of up to six minutes per trip for most bus routes, given services will no longer need to divert along Bunker Road.”
Mr Butcher said the existing station could not accommodate expected future passenger volumes and was not in a location to best service the community.
Since initial plans were released last year, information sessions have been held and 217 surveys completed.
A total of 44 per cent of those who gave feedback believed the new station would improve their public transport experience, or were neutral about it. Just over half supported, or were neutral about, the upgrade.
The proposed station will include:
- An upgraded station with capacity for six buses (an increase on the current four)
- Sheltered bus platforms and waiting area with improved accessibility
- Go card top-up facilities
- Bicycle storage facilities
- Bus driver facilities
- Improved lighting
- Security cameras with 24-hour video recording
The final design is expected in mid-2017, with construction to start later this year.
