The Courthouse Restaurant's Australia's Biggest Morning Tea raises dollars

While the foods were no sweeter than usual, it was the generous spirit on show which left guests satisfied – about $4200 was raised from the event for Cancer Council Queensland.

The amount exceeded the initial fundraising target by about $700.

Money for the cause was generated through ticket and raffle sales, with service and the venue provided free-of-charge by The Courthouse Restaurant.

Function manager Carol Balfour said she was delighted by the efforts of waiters and chefs, who volunteered to help without pay.

“All the staff donated their own time,” she said.

More than $70,000 has been raised by The Courthouse Restaurant for Cancer Council Queensland throughout the past two decades.

Cancer Council Queensland Redlands branch secretary treasurer Pam Tranter said the morning tea was another outstanding fundraising event.

Patricia Snoddy, who helped co-ordinate the fundraiser, agreed. “It was excellent,” Ms Snoddy said.

Best dressed awards were handed out to winners Gwen Evans and Agnes Kowal, with raffle prizes to lucky guests.

Diners were not only entertained by Redland City councillor Paul Bishop, but were also able to meet the event’s patron and guest-of-honour Professor Robert ‘Frank’ Gardiner OAM.

Jill Bloomer, 83, also attended – Ms Bloomer used to coordinate The Courthouse Restaurant Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea events when they first began about 20 years ago.
