PARTS of Cleveland’s CBD have been spruced up by wooden decking, splashes of paint, a giant checkers game and an enchanted garden in a bid to bring more customers to town.
The makeover by volunteers took place earlier this month and was led by Brisbane-based artist David Engwicht.
Redland City mayor Karen Williams said the initiative, called place making, would help revitalise the Cleveland CBD.
The strategy was identified by the business community last October as part of the Redland City Council hosted What’s Next workshop.

The freshen-up included the placement of a pot and paint brush installation, giant Jenga game and piano within the CBD, with deckchairs also to be set-up each day at Bloomfield Park.
A council spokesperson ways to permanently install the giant checkers board near the Cleveland Library were also being investigated.
The Cleveland Library will be opened on Sundays between 10am and 1pm next month as part of the revamp.
