QUEENSLAND’S building industry regulator has issued a warning about a builder who is alleged to have been doing unlawful building work on the bay islands, including Russell Island.
The Queensland Building and Construction Commission said consumers, contractors and suppliers should exercise extreme caution in their dealings with Christine Ann Kirby-Ryan trading as Display Partners, and also with Zlatko Mar and Tina Lee Sellars.
A QBCC spokesperson said Ms Kirby-Ryan was also director of a company called Display Partners Australia Pty Ltd.
“It is allegedly that Ms Kirby-Ryan, trading as Display Partners and Display Partners Australia Pty Ltd, has been carrying out unlawful building work on the bay islands, including Russell Island,” the spokesperson said.
The QBCC is continuing investigations into the matters.
Anyone who has had dealings with the entities mentioned in relation to building work is asked to contact the QBCC.
The spokesperson said Mr Mar, also known as Zac Mar, and Ms Sellars were also believed to be involved in the business dealings of Ms Kirby-Ryan trading as Display Partners.
The spokesperson said the commission successfully took action against Mr Mar in the magistrates court in February this year for unlawful building work, licence borrowing and various contract offences.
“Mr Mar is known by many aliases, including Zak Potochnic.”
The QBCC warned that extreme caution be taken before dealing with the people or companies mentioned and to seek legal advice before entering into contracts or making payments.
“Information received by the QBCC suggests that Mr Mar and Ms Sellars may have left the bay islands area and may be seeking to undertake building without a licence in the Coomera or Gold Coast areas.”
Anyone with doubts as to whether an entity is licensed or holds the appropriate licence to do the work can conduct a free online licence search at qbcc.qld.gov.au or contact the QBCC on 139 333.
