The Redland Bombers have kept their NEAFL season alive with an emphatic 46-point victory over the Giants at Spotless Stadium on Saturday.
The Bombers pulled themselves off the bottom of the ladder with their first win over the Giants, booting four goals to none in the opening term on their way to a 14.14 (98) to 7.10 (52) victory.
It took a quarter and a half before Dawson Simpson booted the Giants’ first major of the day, closing the margin to 23 points, but it wasn’t long before the Bombers fought back.
Clay Cameron soon bobbed up for his first major of the day, as Redland steadied to take a 22-point lead into half-time.
They lifted a notch in the third, kicking four goals to one to open up a match-winning 41-point lead by the last change.
Having lost to the Giants in the two encounters and losing by a combined total of 250 points, the Bombers stepped up to the plate with outstanding performances from captain Hayden Bertoli-Simmonds (30 disposals) Jack Rolls (26 disposals) and Darcy Cameron-Reeves (25 disposals) in their midfield.
Cameron and Aaron Christensen each booted four goals, while Boyd Bailey and Adrian Williams were also key to their victory.
Tendai Mzungu (32 disposals), defender Jeremy Finlayson (23 disposals, two goals) and Tim Mohr led the way in a depleted Giants side, who now plummets to the bottom of the ladder.
Next week Redland has a bye for the NEAFL representative match against Tasmania, while the Giants face cross-town rivals Sydney at Henson Park.
