Travel agent Erin Ross will share her story at a cocktail party hosted by the company she works with, TravelManagers, and Elysium Restaurant and Bar, Victoria Point.
Up for grabs at the event are holiday packages, including eight nights in Thailand and a cruise, and other prizes that will be offered through a silent auction.
Ms Ross’s husband was diagnosed with brain cancer in August 2013 and died about 18 months later at the age of 32.
Their children were eight and five years old at the time.
Ms Ross said they had received so much support from the community from the time of her husband’s diagnosis and she felt it was important to help others going through a tough time.
“Any opportunity to raise awareness or funds and I jump on board,” she said.
“We, as a family, can’t change our situation, but we can help others.
“We don’t want any family to have to go through what we have. We need to find the cause and we need to find a cure.”
Ms Ross said her friends at TravelManagers wanted to help raise funds for and awareness of brain cancer.
The Beanies for Brain Cancer Winter Cocktail Party will be held at Elysium on Friday, June 16 from 7.30pm to 10.30pm.
Tickets cost $70, which includes a three-hour beverage package and canapes. $10 from each ticket sold will be donated to Beanies for Brain Cancer.
Tickets must be pre-purchased via phone or in person. Phone 3820 6579.
The fundraising efforts can also be supported by donating online at curebraincancer.org.au/my-fundraising/10483/beanies-for-brain-cancer.
