The music of a group of septuagenarians will be celebrated at the next club social for Redlands Modern Country Music Club from 5pm on Saturday, July 1.
Featured will be 14 club members, all turning 70 this year. The group comprises Bill Healey, Col Swindells, Dave Currie, John Donnelly, Kevin Ging, Lorraine Boughen, Lorraine Bickford, Margaret Campbell, Maurie Page, Mike Sheehan, Neale Campbell, Neil Wills, Peter Ramsay and Vonnie Bauer. They will perform songs made famous by the Everley Bros, Buddy Holly, Willie Nelson, Bonnie Tyler, Johnny Cash, and the Rolling Stones, demonstrating more than 600 years of musical experience with skills on guitar, bass, drums, banjo, dobro and mandolin.
Five of the group are life members of the club and many are multi skilled instrumentalists and singers as well as radio presenters and country music festival judges, hailing from Australia, New Zealand, England and America.
Redlands Modern Country Music Clubhouse is located at Pinklands Sports Reserve, 226 Cleveland Redland Bay Road, Thornlands and is a semi-outdoor venue. Patrons should bring a jumper and a chair.
Other members of the Redlands Modern Country Music Club will also be on stage and walk up artists are invited to perform.
Admission is $4 for members and $5 for visitors. A barbeque meal will be available and a licensed bar will be operating. Free tea and coffee is available throughout the night and a free country style supper will be served at 8:30pm.
