PRIMARY school students can combine their interest in storytelling with learning about science at a fun workshop with Sheldon children’s author Michelle Worthington.
Aiming to encourage an interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), the workshop will be presented by Ms Worthington and marine ecologist Dr Sue Pillans, also known as Dr Suzie Starfish.
Dr Pillans has always been drawn to the ocean and uses the art of science storytelling to engage children.
An aspiring author and illustrator, Dr Pillans uses imagination, information and illustration to bring her sea stories to life.
Ms Worthington writes empowering picture books and aims to inspire children to believe in themselves.
She is a two-time winner of the International Book Award for Children’s Hardcover Fiction, a finalist in the USA Best Book Awards and recipient of the Gellett Burgess Award for Children’s Literature and a Silver Moonbeam Award for her contribution to diversity in children’s books.
Children are encouraged to dress up for the workshop and join in the fun at the hour-long session to engage them in creative thinking and arts and crafts with the theme Under the Sea.
The workshop will be at Wynnum Library on Wednesday, June 28 from 9.30am to 10.30am.
It is for children from grade 3 to grade 6.
