The Rotary Club of Capalaba President Col Sutcliffe handed over the presidency to Annette Richards annual changeover on June 19 at the Capalaba Sports Club.
Guests included incoming District Governor Elwyn Hodges and his wife Allison, several members of two local Probus Clubs and councillors Wendy Boglary and Paul Gleeson.
Mr Sutcliffe left children’s books for all attendees to sign before distribution to children in the drought affected west. This is a project of the current District Governor’s wife and will continue through Mrs Hodges for the next year. Mr Sutcliffe also made a financial presentation to Julie Bennell from Cleveland Scouts.
Presentations were made to treasurer Dave Lang as Rotarian of the year, Bev Allsop and David Field as Paul Harris Fellow sapphires, Tracy Randall as a Paul Harris Fellow and David Field who was awarded a Rotary International ‘Avenues of Service Citation.
“For those who step up to take committee positions and presidents roles there is a deep sense of satisfaction but also a sacrifice of time and energy. Col stood up again this past year to the challenge and has had a wonderfully successful year with the Capalaba Rotary Club assisting more than 23 mostly local groups. Not only did they fund raise, but they had a year of respect for their members’ efforts, fun and fellowship. Rotary's motto is Service above Self and Col is fine example of this,” Cr Boglary said.
Ms Richards said that while Rotary International had a new theme, the program would remain similar to the previous year.
She said that while it was healthy to look back over the club’s 39-year history, it was also important to look forward. She said she was keen for the club to support Days for Girls and to plan for an international project. .
