Brisbane's population has increased by almost 10 per cent in the past five years.
Census data released today reveals the population in Greater Brisbane in 2016 was 2.27 million compared to 2.07 million in 2011 - an increase of 9.9 per cent.
Almost half of all Queensland residents live in the Sunshine State's capital city of Brisbane.
The Census counted 4,703,193 usual residents of Queensland on Census night, an 8.6 per cent increase from 2011.
The poll was also used to update Queensland's estimated resident population, which at December 31, had grown to 4,883,739 people.

Country of origin
While the majority of migrants settled in Sydney and Melbourne, most Kiwis chose to call Queensland home.
More than one in three of the 98,000 New Zealanders arriving in Australia since 2011 decided to live in the Sunshine State.
New Zealand (4.3 per cent) remained the most commonly reported country of birth outside Australia for people in Queensland, followed by England (3.8 per cent) and India (1 per cent).
More than 70 per cent of Queenslanders reported Australia as their country of birth.
In Queensland, English was the top ancestry reported (27.5 per cent), followed by Australian (25.3 per cent), Irish (8.7 per cent), Scottish (7.5 per cent) and then German (4.5 per cent).
Language and religion
The maroon state remains largely English speaking, with four out of five people (81 per cent), reporting they only spoke English at home, down from 85 per cent in 2011.
The most common languages spoken in Queensland homes other than English were Mandarin, Vietnamese, Cantonese and then Spanish.
Christianity was the most common religion reported in Queensland, accounting for more than half of the state's population - 2.6 million people - while 29 per cent reported they had "no religion".
Across the nation, Christianity remained the most common religion, at 52 per cent, followed by Islam (2.6 per cent) and Buddhism (2.4 per cent).
Hinduism had the most significant growth between 2006 and 2016, driven by immigration from South Asia.
Those reporting no religion increased noticeably from 19 per cent in 2006 to 30 per cent in 2016.
Household budgets
Queensland's median weekly personal income increased from $587 in 2011 to $660 in 2016, a 12 per cent rise.
The family income was $1661, up from $1453 in 2011.
The Weipa Local Government Area on the western shores of the Cape York Peninsula recorded the state's highest median income at $1320 a week.
Queensland recorded the country's third-highest median weekly rent, with an increase of 10 per cent over the past five years to $330.
For those chasing the great Australian dream, the state's median monthly mortgage repayment fell by 6 per cent.
Demographics
Queenslanders are getting older, with the median age sitting at 37 in 2016, compared to 36 in 2011.
But that is still younger than the median age of 38 for Australia.
The Queensland population is 49.4 per cent male and 50.6 per cent.
Fewer Queenslanders report being married, at 46.9 per cent, compared to 47.9 per cent in 2011.
Of the families in Queensland, 42.5 per cent were couple families with children, 39.4 per cent were couple families without children and 16.5 per cent were one parent families.
Indigenous population
The number of people identifying as being of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander origin is on the rise, increasing from 2.5 per cent of the Australian population in 2011 to 2.8 per cent (or almost 650,000 people) in 2016.
Queensland had the second-highest number of Indigenous people of any state or territory in 2016, at 186,482.
That was an almost 20 per cent increase on the 2011.
Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islanders make up 4 per cent of the Queensland population.
While the Northern Territory had nation's highest proportion of Indigenous people at 25.5 per cent of the NT population, New South Wales was home to the highest number, with more than 216,000 people of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander origin.
There have been increases in income within the Indigenous population since 2011, with median weekly household income increasing from $991 to $1203.
Unpaid work
In Queensland, of people aged 15 years and over, 70.5 per cent did unpaid domestic work in the week before the Census.
During the two weeks before the Census, 28.1 per cent provided care for children and 10.7 per cent assisted family members or others due to a disability, long term illness or problems related to old age.
In the year before the Census, 18.8 per cent of people did voluntary work through an organisation or group.
