Wellington Point Rotary Club members celebrated significant fund raising achievements of the last year with a winter racing carnival theme recently.
The club raised $160,000 which will be distributed to both local and international organisations.
Recipients include the Wellington Point High School Chaplaincy, Smart Pups, Police Legacy, Redlands for Refugees, the Redlands Museum, Crimestoppers, African Hearts to Build a Village of Hope in Kyerima, Uganda and a commitment towards classrooms in Mele Village, Vanuatu.
President John Chirio gave up his leadership of the Club to third time president, Lorraine Hooker to continue the humanitarian works. Incoming District Governor Elwyn Hodges awarded a Paul Harris Fellow to Mr Chirio.
Ms Hooker said she had a desire to see Rotary and Lions work together collaboratively for the benefit of all.
I think this will ensure that Rotary Wellington Point will continue and can enhance its focus with extended youth activities.,” she said.
The current international theme of is Rotary Making a Difference.
