George Hartnett and Metropolitan funerals are searching for Cleveland’s unsung heroes.
The Local Legends initiative recognises locals for their caring and selfless contributions to their community.
The winner of the Local Legend awards will receive $1000, and the funeral services will also match this reward with a further $1000 going to the winner’s chosen charity or community group.
Nominations will be judged by a panel of four judges, including a local community representative.
Regional manager at George Hartnett Funerals and Metropolitan Funerals, Davina Bambrick said she was encouraging residents and businesses of Cleveland to sing the praises of their local legends and nominate.
“Too often we celebrate the extraordinary lives of people in our community when they’ve passed away. Local Legends is a very important initiative, which gives the much-deserved recognition to people who work tirelessly, selflessly, and in anonymity for the benefit of their communities, in the here and now,” she said.
“I also work with some pretty inspirational legends. My colleague Warwick Hansen marked 50 years in the funeral industry this year and was recently honoured with an OAM for his services to the community.
“The awards bring a spotlight to marvelous residents of Cleveland who, like Warwick, contribute so much, without any desire for personal recognition.”
Nominations are open to people of all ages and can be made either online at George Hartnett Funerals and Metropolitan Funerals or by visiting George Hartnett Funerals and Metropolitan Funerals in Cleveland to fill in a paper nomination form.
Nominations close on October 31 and the winner will be announced in November.
All nominations must be verified by the appropriate charity, organisation, community group, or business they have been involved in.
