THE annual Quandamooka Festival celebrating culture, country and people kicked off its calendar of events on the weekend at Minjerribah with the Yura Festival.
Festival events will be held at Minjerribah (North Stradbroke Island) and Southern Moreton Bay Islands over the next three months.
Quandamooka people live and work in the region, with cultural traditions handed down over tens of thousands of years.
The festival teaches people about the sands, seas, lakes, creeks, catchments and creatures found across the Redlands and Moreton Bay islands.
Festivities include whale watching cultural tours, kunjiels (corroborees), sports, eco boat tours, art, weaving, bush tucker and symposiums.
