AN OUTDOOR gym has been installed at a Birkdale park through a joint council and business initiative.
Councillors Wendy Boglary and Paul Bishop brought the outdoor gym to Three Paddocks Park on the border with Wellington Point after hearing about the realSpaces concept at a local government association conference.
The gym, the fourth of its kind in Queensland, is funded by council and Real Insurance.
The councillors contributed more than $38,000 from their community infrastructure programs.
The area offers 17 exercise stations, with instructions about their use, including videos accessible by smartphone.
Fitness instructor Cass Blazer said the outdoor equipment was useful for new mums who could use the equipment at any time and while going for a walk.
“This can enable them to start to do exercise at a slow pace,” she said.
Cr Boglary said the gym, with a view of the bay, enhanced the area.
“This is a great outdoor facility for people of all ages and abilities,” she said.
Cr Bishop said the park was a local social hub and the outdoor gym would be a valuable community asset.
“Outdoor recreational facilities that encourage exercise make for happy and healthier communities and this equipment is a great addition to our community which will no doubt prove popular with residents,” he said.
