SOROPTIMIST International Bayside has been recognised for its work on addressing domestic violence.
The organisation has won two Best Practice Awards, judged by the Soroptimist International members at regional and federation levels.
A spokesperson for SI Bayside said the elimination of violence against women and girls was a long-term objective of SI so it was regarded highly by the judging panels.
The organisation worked with other community organisations in a Redlands domestic violence project last year.
The initiative was selected by the Communities Department as an example of communities working together.
As part of the project posters were distributed to libraries, support agencies, government departments and train stations.
“In addition, 60,000 stickers were distributed to households throughout the Redlands,” the spokesperson said.
“This project also ensures women’s participation in conflict resolution, through encouraging the community to see the potential of positive action – that non-violence can be contagious as long as good people stand up for what is right.”
