EDUCATION Minister Kate Jones has presented Redlands teacher Sheena Hewlett with a certificate acknowledging her nomination for a National Excellence in Teaching Award.
Australian Scholarships Group’s National Excellence in Teaching Awards Foundation was set up in 1994 to honour exemplary teaching throughout Australia and New Zealand.
For more than 23 years, the awards have provided communities with the opportunity to formally recognise and thank outstanding teachers and leaders.
Ms Hewlett is a teacher at C&K Bethlehem Preschool and Kindergarten at Woongoolba.
“ASG is proud to continue its support for the teaching profession by acknowledging the valuable role inspirational teachers play in the development of our young people,” a spokesperson said.
Ms Hewlett said she was humbled to be nominated and while she had been selected once before she now had her eyes firmly on the top prize of being picked to travel to NASA Space Camp in the US next year to talk about education in Australia.
Finalists will be announced in October with a reception at Parliament House, Canberra, in March next year.
