There’s still a few prawns around in southern Moreton Bay but you’ll have to work a little harder or spend more time looking for them with your sounder but plenty of people are still getting a bucket.
The hot spot seems to be the Saltworks off the bottom of Macleay Island. Bream are dominating estuary catches, the Sunken Wall in the Brisbane River has turned up good numbers, as well as Jumpinpin, Broadwater and all rivers and creeks.
It’s not a great tailor season on the beaches so far but there are plenty in the bay and estuary waters.
Top spots have been around Jumpinpin Bar and the Seaway on the run-in tide. It is one of the best mulloway seasons we’ve had for a long time, with lots of fish about 80cm.
Top spots are the Brisbane River, Goat Island, Kalinga Bank and the Seaway. All signs indicate a great snapper season, not big fish but plenty of them.
The southern bay shallows have turned up a lot of fish of about 40cm for those drifting and casting plastics into the shallows.
The bay’s artificial reefs are turning up great catches, as is the Brisbane River in the evenings.
Surprisingly there’s still mackerel about, with the best catches from the eastern end of the Rous and bottom of Moreton Island to the Sand Hills.
So far it’s been a great diver whiting season, the banks on the eastern side of the bay are still fishing the best but if you spend some time drifting till you catch a few then berley you’ll catch them on most banks.
Mud crabs have been hard to find as you’d expect for this time of year but there’s good numbers of sand crabs along North Stradbroke Island from Deanbilla Bay to Karragarra Island. Offshore it is a great snapper season.
There’s been excellent catches at Deep Tempest, the deeper reefs are producing the better catches.
There’s also been some quality pearlies around if you target wire-weed in the deep water as well.
Live baiting produced kingfish and amberjack in the deep water but the shallows and bait grounds have turned up some quality cobia.
On the freshwater scene, catches in most impoundments have slowed up a bit although North Pine Dam is still producing big numbers.
