Redland Performing Arts Centre hosts a smorgasbord of small and tasty plays from 11 South East Queensland theatre groups at.DramaFest 2017 on July 28 and 29.
The festival offers a wide range of theatrical gems that promise laughter, tears and soul searching.
The audience can join the surviving crew of an exploding spacecraft cargo carrier, go camping with some incompetent teenage scouts and dig deep into the dark side of morality and behaviour.
Theatre goers can also also meet 10 of Australia’s most daring suffragists waging their hat-box-to-ballot-box battle, and find laughter and love chained unexpectedly together.
Self-help groups and bank robbery strike an interesting accord, David Copperfield emerges from history and other characters emerge in a horrifying form from our fairy tales. There are spiders in the basement and there’s a strange woman upstairs in the attic, plus an odd couple of women are trying really hard to stay friends. The psychological and emotional aftermath of fighting in Afghanistan is explored and a different sort of horror comes to a service station near you.
One $5 ticket will get you into all four sessions of 11 plays to enjoy a great variety of one-act plays in the Redland’s contribution to the highly-regarded South East Queensland Drama Festival Circuit.
All plays will be adjudicated for awards by highly-regarded theatre director, drama educator, scholar, designer, writer, producer and consultant Michael Beh. Most recently he worked on Queensland Theatre’s production of Once in Royal David’s City as the Brecht consultant. He is currently directing Uncle Vanya for new Brisbane company, The Curators.
Sessions are held from 7pm to 9pm on Friday, July 28 and at 9am to 11.30am, 1pm to 4.15pm and from 5.30pm to 9pm on July 29. Tickets will be available at the door prior to each session.
