CAPALABA residents are calling on people to keep a look-out for a red-neck wallaby which has been shot with an arrow.
The buck has been seen in the Guyana Court area near Capalaba Sports Club.
Resident Kathy Clark said the Redlands wildlife ambulance and RSPCA staff had looked for the wallaby which had an arrow protuding from a hind leg.
“It’s a pathetic thing for someone to do,” Ms Clark said. “When it hops along, the arrow hooks on trees and vegetation. It must be very painful.”
Ms Clark said it was hoped the animal could be captured and the arrow removed before infection took over.
RSPCA staff have reported that they fear the movie Hunger Games and survival-type television shows in which people kill animals for food may have encouraged people to use bows and arrows on wildlife.
Other animals shot include kangaroos, birds and possums.
