TWO dogs have died from poison at Victoria Point in one week, with others saved by veterinarians.
Police are investigating after a golden retriever was found dead at a Point O’Halloran Road house about 3pm last week Tuesday.
The four-year-old dog appeared healthy at 7am but had been vomiting in its yard before the owners returned home.
Police said blue granules found in a bag on the property were snail bait.
They said a Maltese terrier that died on July 13 at a house near Bunker Road also had been poisoned.
Thornlands veterinarian Dr Katria Lovell warned dogs needed immediate treatment after eating snail bait, while rat poison took longer to affect them.
“Snail bait poisoning is instantaneous,” she said. “The only way to save the dogs is to immediately get them into intensive care.”
Last month Dr Lovell treated two cattle dogs that had been poisoned with snail bait at Redland Bay.
Another dog was treated for suspected poisoning after it was found to be lethargic last week Monday.
