THE Redlands Disability Network is helping disability service providers prepare for the National Disability Insurance Scheme scheduled for roll out in July next year.
An event for service providers, sponsored by Redland City Council and National Disability Services, has been held at Redlands Performing Arts Centre.
Services providers from regions where NDIS has been implemented shared their insights and strategies with participants and assisted them in developing practical tools to get ready for the transition.
Co-ordinator of the RDN, Rob Spencer said the forum was a key step in the preparation for the NDIS transition in Redlands next year.
The NDIS is a major social reform initiated by the Australian government for people with a significant and permanent disability and their families and carers.
It is being rolled out in stages and will become available in the Redlands from July 1, 2018.
“The discussions enabled service providers to take away valuable tools which they can use immediately in their organisations and get ready to support the Redlands families through the transition,” Mr Spencer said.
The general manager of STAR Community Services Patsy Wilshire said they were proud supporters of the RDN.
“As a community organisation, we are proud to be supporters of the network,” she said.
“Events like the RDN forum are very helpful in bringing the service providers together, sharing information and identifying gaps and opportunities; to ensure Redlands residents with disability can access quality products and services when NDIS is implemented in our region.
