There is no nonsense when it comes to building a school in East Timor with Mac’s Musicals staging the popular musical Nunsense to raise funds this August.
The musical recounts the hilarious happenings at a convent of Catholic nuns. It was first performed by Mac’s Musicals 13 years ago. Many of its former cast join various newcomers to present an updated version of the show with proceeds to support St Mary Mackillop parish projects, among them the building of an orphanage at Our Lady of Graces parish in Metinaro, East Timor.
The previous show attracted big crowds and this one is expected to be equally popular.
Mac’s Musicals has been in hibernation in recent years and is now looking to recapture its popularity with the local community and justify its previous reputation for the quality and entertainment value of its productions.
Nunsense is written and composed by Dan Goggin and tells the story of five nuns who survive food poisoning while at Bingo. The deadly vichyssoise soup was prepared by Sister Julia.
The remaining nuns ballet-loving Sister Leo (played by Isabelle Wicks), street-wise Sister Robert Anne (played by Bronwyn Craig), befuddled Sister Mary Amnesia (played by Zoe Costello), the Mother Superior, Sister Regina (played by Amy Wicks), and mistress of the novices, Sister Mary Hubert (played by Melissa Manion) stage a talent show to raise the money to bury their dearly departed. The musical is accompanied on keyboard by Nick Tyler and Ian Proellocks.
Performances will be on August 18 and 25 at 7.30pm and on August 19 and 26 at 2pm and 7.30pm at the Southern Cross Centre, St Mary Mackillop Catholic primary school, 12 Hardy Road, Birkdale.
Ticket are adults $20, concessions $16 and children $12. Group bookings of more than $175 will attract a 10 per cent discount. Book online through Ticketbooth at: https://events.ticketbooth.com.au/event/nunsense-musical.
