ACTING Inspector at Cleveland fire station Simon Johnstone, together with paramedic Jaye Newton, won an event at the Australasian Road Rescue Challenge in New Zealand.
The event was the trauma challenge where a firefighter and paramedic are assessed in their clinical and patient care skills.
Acting Inspector Johnston and Redland Bay senior firefighter Richard Bertossi were the two Redlands representatives in the Brisbane team of five firefighters and one paramedic that took part in the international competition.
Out of 20 competing teams, QFES Brisbane came sixth overall.
In addition to the trauma challenge, the team took part in three simulated road crashes where they had 30 minutes to rescue casualties.
