She's the daughter of rock and roll icon Chubby Checker and the wife of former NFL quarterback Shane Boyd, and now Mistie Bass is the newest member of the Canberra Capitals.
The Capitals filled the final spot on their roster for the 2017-18 WNBL season with the WNBA title winner as they look to end a six-year finals drought.
Bass gave birth to her son Braven in June and will be doing The Twist - the dance move made famous by her father - if she can help the Capitals back to title contention.
And according to reports, she's just about the best person in the world at the dance - right behind her dad.
"I've always wanted to play in Australia," Bass said.
"Many WNBA players speak highly of the league and its competitiveness. I am excited to play for the Capitals this season and help the team be as successful as possible.
"Motherhood is certainly an adjustment; there are long nights and not much sleep. I absolutely love being a mother though, it has given me a new outlook on life and a fresh perspective on how to approach basketball.
"I love the physical element of basketball so my personal goal is to get back to dominating consistently."
Bass won a WNBA championship with the Phoenix Mercury in 2014 and Capitals coach Paul Goriss says she will bring some much-needed experience to a young group.
"She wants to get back into basketball and we needed some veteran leadership in the bigs because we've got some young girls in Lauren Scherf and Ezi Magbegor in those big spots," Goriss said.
"We needed another veteran, we needed some leadership. She brings the veteran status with her but obviously her some of her character traits are what we need... a great defender, a great rebounder and being a physical presence for us."
The Capitals have put in the final piece of the puzzle more than two months out from their season opener against Bendigo on October 6.
Goriss is confident in the squad at hand but is refusing to look too far ahead as the Capitals look to earn a play-off spot for the first time since 2011.
The Capitals will host 10 games at the new National Convention Centre court in a condensed season that Goriss believes will be "extremely tough".
"Getting the 10 all sorted and dusted this early has been great for us," Goriss said.
"We'll need as much time as we can with the new group again. [We] didn't want to start over but with the majority of our girls going to Europe from last season's team , it was like having to redo the roster a little bit.
"I think every game is going to be tough. If you're not on your game, you could end up anywhere going from first to last so it's going to be a really tough competition."
