Brisbane Bullets forward Daniel Kickert has been named in the Australian Boomers team to play in next month's FIBA Asia Cup in Beirut.
Kickert is the only Bullet in the team, joining a host of other NBL players from the various clubs in the 12 man squad coached by Bullets' mentor Andrej Lemanis.
With a number of Rio Olympians, including Brisbane's Cameron Bairstow and Melbourne sharpshooter Chris Goulding, ruled out through injury, Lemanis told NBL.com.au the side picked for the competition after a recent camp on the Gold Coast represents a long term vision for the national side.
"I've been so impressed and humbled with the attitude that everyone came into camp with," he said.
"I know how much it means to them to be in a Boomers environment and every time you are around them, it reminds you just how lucky we are to be involved in a wonderful program with wonderful people.
"Part of this camp's purpose was to set the scene for the next 18 months or so through the first set of qualifiers.
"We wanted to continue to build with the broader group and establish the team's trademarks as well as offensive and defensive understandings.
"To that end, some players who were injured still gave up their time to be connected to the program."
Kickert's club teammate Reuben Te Rangi will also compete at the Asia Cup, having been selected for the New Zealand Tall Blacks side.
The Boomers first game is against Japan on August 8, before playing minnows Hong Kong on August 10 and Chinese Taipei on August 12.
Quarter finals begin on August 17 with semi-finals on August 19 and medal games played the following day.
