MAYOR Karen Williams officially opened the $600,000 Mount Cotton Skate Park on Saturday before a crowd of 500, topping off a day of celebrations.
Cr Williams said the skate park was expected to attract skateboarders from a wide area and would play a vital role for youth.
“This skate park has been built to high standards and, importantly, it was designed in consultation with the community,” she said.
Cr Julie Talty said she expected the park at Mount Cotton Community Park to be incredibly popular with young people.
The opening included an all-ages beginners’ session, a ‘Groms go off’, races, time trials and prizes for kids.
It also had a demonstration by skateboard professionals Dennis Durrant, Andrew ‘Beacho’ Beauchamp, Mitch Morrison, Joel Mcilroy and Pat Dandy.
