CANCER Council Queensland’s Redlands Volunteer Branch will turn the town yellow as Daffodil Day blooms for another year.
This year Cancer Council is celebrating 31 years of Daffodil Day, with the official day falling on Friday, August 25.
The Redlands Volunteer Branch will sell fresh daffodils, pens, pins and Dougal bears at shopping centres from August 24 to 26.
The branch will have stalls at Alexandra Hills Shopping Centre, Cleveland Stockland Shopping Centre, Victoria Point Shopping Centre, Capalaba Park Shopping Centre, Capalaba Central, Redland Bay Village Shopping Centre and Birkdale Fair.
Redlands branch member Patricia Snoddy called for people to support the cause by stopping by their nearest Daffodil Day stall.
A volunteer since 1990, Ms Snoddy said she always looked forward to Daffodil Day.
“It’s a lovely time of the year and it’s wonderful seeing everyone when you volunteer,” she said.
“The daffodils sell themselves and you get to talk to people and hear their stories.”
More than 800,000 fresh daffodils are expected to be sold across the state.
Cancer Council Queensland chief executive Chris McMillan said volunteers worked hard behind-the-scenes to ensure the day was a success.
“Daffodil Day is one of Queensland’s most iconic events, bringing hope and joy into the lives of locals affected by cancer,” she said.
“A bright splash of yellow does more than light up the community – it means we are taking active steps to beat cancer and show our support to those affected.”
