ALEXANDRA Hills man Johaan Kaa is set to join boxer Billy Tindall to raise a sweat for child safety in more ways than one.
Mr Kaa, who will cycle alongside Mr Tindall as he crosses the finish line of his 1800 kilometre Melbourne to Sunshine Coast run in late October, said he would also join the athlete for a “treadmill-a-thon” at Alexandra Hills’ IFeelGood 24/7 health club.
The 12 hour event, which is on from 7am next Saturday, August 26, is all to raise money for the Daniel Morcombe Foundation.
The “treadmill-a-thon” is ahead of Mr Tindall’s long distance jog for the cause.
The athlete’s ultra-marathon is scheduled to begin in Melbourne on September 25 and finish at the Sunshine Coast on October 27, which is Day for Daniel.
Mr Kaa, who began training for his 10-kilometre bike ride in February at the gym, said he wanted to do everything he could to help Mr Tindall on his mission.
While about $5000 has been donated to the foundation as part of Mr Tindall’s “Ultramarathon for Daniel”, more dollars are needed to reach the $100,000 fundraising goal.
“The (treadmill-a-thon) is a great way for us to rally support for a great cause,” Mr Kaa said.
The charity, which educates children about personal safety and supports families of missing persons, was established by Bruce and Denise Morcombe in 2005 following the abduction and murder of their 13-year-old son Daniel in 2003 as he waited to catch a bus.
Club manager Hayden Jackson participants would need to donate $1 for every minute spent on a treadmill, with proceeds from 20-minute classes, held from 7am until 1pm on the day, also going to the charity.
Mr Jackson said all donations would be accepted.
IFeelGood24/7 health club is at shop FS2, 71 Cambridge Drive, Alexandra Hills.
