The Bessies are a refreshing new act on the folk music menu, coming to Folk Redlands on Sunday, September 3 at Indigiscapes, Runnymede Road, Capalaba.
Comprising Dave Crane, Erin Murphy, Kiri Waiata and Rosalind Perry, the Bessies are musicians with roots in a variety of styles including soul, disco, classical, choral, theatre and folk. Each with fabulous voices, they throw their varied experiences into a melting pot combined with banjo, ukulele, piano accordion and other things you hit, shake or strum. Secretly, they each aspire to play every instrument they’ve ever owned.
The result is a finger pickin’ platter of soulful songs and quirky originals, oozing with uplifting harmonies. Underlying their performances is an obvious energy of generosity, and with several members from choral backgrounds, The Bessies are itching to share their music not only in performance but in an inclusive workshop environment.
The Bessies will be the feature act for Folk Redlands on September 3, conducting a free workshop on harmony singing and body percussion from 2pm prior to the performance.
The event is open to public, and blackboard performers are invited to commence the afternoon.
