A POLICE officer who led a crack down on drugs on Southern Moreton Bay Islands has been recognised by the Capalaba Rotary Club.
Senior Constable Stephen Ackroyd, of the Capalaba Tactical Crime Squad, made a number of arrests during police operations on the islands.
The award was one of six announced at the Rotary Club’s Vocational Service Award dinner on Monday.
Senior Constable Brendon Winslow from the Bayside Crime Prevention Unit was given the Community Police Award and Detective Senior Constable Penny Anderson, of the Wynnum Child Protection Investigation Unit, the Outstanding Police Action Award.
Detective Inspector Owen Elloy said Detective Senior Constable Anderson had undertaken a thorough and professional investigation into a case of incest that had culminated in a guilty plea from one person, while another is still to face court.
Detective Inspector Elloy said Senior Constable Winslow had found himself working solo as a crime prevention officer for the Bayside soon after his transfer.
“He has become an exceptional officer in advocating on behalf of victims of crime in the Bayside area,” he said.
In the vocational awards, the apprenticeship award went to Lilli Mouatt, a third year motor mechanic apprentice at Redlands Mechanical Repairs, while the best business practices award went to her boss, owner Kirk Brinkman.
The sales and customer service award to junior school head at Faith Lutheran College, Eloise Beveridge.
Highly commended certificates were given to Senior Constable Brad Given and Constable Dean Cox, of Redland Bay Police Station.
Detective Inspector Elloy said the pair had resolved a dangerous situation involving an armed and highly agitated man at Victoria Point last year.
