STAFF from Australian Hearing will offer free hearing checks when their bus pulls into Capalaba on Thursday, September 7.
Since launching their blue and white buses in 2009, Australian Hearing have provided more than 94,000 free hearing checks across the country through their mobile hearing service.
Australian Hearing Cleveland manager David McMaster said it was common for people to be unaware their hearing was diminishing because age-related hearing loss developed gradually over time.
About 60 per cent of Australians over the age of 60 suffer some form of hearing loss.
“A hearing check is a quick and easy way to measure the sounds you can and can’t hear,” Mr McMaster said.
“Our team will also be on hand to guide you through what next steps you may have to take in regards to your hearing.
“As well as having a hearing check, visitors to the bus can find information on a range of common hearing issues and view a display of easy-to-use hearing devices for around the home.”
These included headsets for watching television and alert systems for doorbells.
“Not everyone who is experiencing problems hearing needs a hearing aid,” Mr McMaster said.
“Sometimes it’s just hearing the television at normal volumes, hearing your doorbell, or hearing your friends on the phone that’s the problem.”
No appointment is necessary and free hearing checks will be available to anyone over 18 years old.
The bus will be at Redlands Community Centre, 29 Loraine Street, Capalaba from 9am to 3pm on Thursday, September 7.
