Flathead continue to dominate estuary catches. Top spots reported at Jumpinpin include Coby Bank, banks along the top of South Stradbroke Island into the Bar and mouth of the Pimpama River where the old oyster lease racks are.
There has also been good catches at Ageston Sands in the Logan, the yabbie bank 500m north of Cabbage Tree Ramp and behind Woongoolpa Island. The mouth of the Brisbane River along the old Coopa Channel and around Fisherman’s Island is also producing good numbers.
Mulloway catches have been best through the day, an hour either side of a tide change.
Brisbane River is still producing fish around the Grain wharf, along the Reclamation Pond around the cranes and the mouth of tributaries.
There’s been a few mulloway at Jumpinpin and Logan River, but the hot spot in the south has been the north wall of the Seaway.
Whiting catches have been good, with a few fish over 40cm reported from the upper Nerang on the run out tide. There’s also a few between the Gazebo and Marks Rocks in the Logan.
A few tailor are turning up on Gold Coast beaches. Top spots have been the Pumping Jetty, Phillip Park and the Tallabudgera Rock groin.
Diver whiting catches in the Bay dropped off this week, anglers targeting them reported they were difficult to find in any numbers.
There were no reports of big snapper this week although there were lots of reports of fish to 45cm from the Redcliffe shallows, most caught in the early evening.
Offshore, most anglers are still targeting snapper and there’s been plenty caught although no really big fish reported, most have been 35 to 45cm with just the odd bigger fish landed.
The 85 - 90m line is still producing the best catches.
It’s the same with pearlies. Deep water of 100 to 120m has produced best results.
Throwing unweighted baits and surface lures or slugs at breaking water around The Group or other exposed headland is turning up tailor, bonito and a few bigger tuna for the keen fisherman.
Riviera upgrade
GOLD Coast boat builder Riviera will produce two new models, the company’s first under-40-foot models in nearly a decade.
Initial details of the sporty and adventurous 395 SUV and a blue-water 39-foot open flybridge were unveiled during the Sydney International Boat Show.
Both models will be released next year.
Riviera owner Rodney Longhurst said the models shared a new hull and deck design, with two cabins and bathroom on the accommodation deck and a saloon and cockpit for entertaining.
