Russell Island Community Arts group recently held its first Garden Art Festival.
The festival ran last week from September 2 through to Saturday, September 9.
During the lead up to the festival, Russell Island Community Arts members engaged in and enjoyed participation at workshops where they offered their ideas on artworks such as paintings and mosaics to complement the garden.
Avid gardeners also enjoyed a delicious high tea at Canaipa Nursery and concluded their festival by visiting each of the entrants' gardens.
This proved to be a visual delight for all who attended.
The festival was judged and supported by local nursery owner Jacqui Torbet, with prizes donated by local businesses such as Russell Island RSL, Talking Heads Hairdressing Salon, Aunty Alice’s Café and local artist Lyn Clarke.
Russell Island Community Arts also currently hosts markets at The Farm Art House and Gallery, which is situated at the end of Robert Street, Russell Island, on the third Sunday of each month from 8am to noon.
The markets are just a short walk from the Russell Island jetty.
Winners of the Garden Festival will be announced this Sunday, September 17 at 10.30am. Prizes will be awarded to each of the winners.
On top of the announcement of winners there will also be market stalls, activities for kids, and delicious Devonshire teas etc, all amidst the wonderful atmosphere of The Farm.
