Firefighters stop man driving off after near miss at Capalaba

FIREFIGHTERS took keys from a motorist to stop him driving off after a car nearly crashed into a fire engine at Capalaba.

Police said a car had hit traffic cones set up around the fire truck, which was parked with emergency lights flashing on Redland Bay Road about 9.45pm on Tuesday.

They said firefighters reported having taken the motorist’s keys until police arrived.

Police charged a 28-year-old Capalaba man with drug-driving.

He is to appear in Cleveland Magistrates Court on October 9.
