Whiting catches are getting better every week as the water temperature increases.
The Nerang is at its best with fish now dispersed from the Sundale Bridge all the way to Carrara.
At Jumpinpin there has been good numbers on the edge of Tabby Island, Gold and Green banks in Tiger Mullet Channel and Middle Banks between Crusoe and North Stradbroke.
There has also been whiting caught in the Logan River around Ageston Sands and the banks towards the mouth of the River.
There has also been good catches of summer whiting around King Island, Wynnum foreshores and in Tingalpa Creek and further north off Skirmish Point and in Pumicestone Passage around the mouth of the creeks flowing into the western foreshores.
Flathead continue to be caught in good numbers in most estuary waters, top spots reported at Jumpinpin are the southern entrance to Coby Channel, banks opposite along Slipping Sands to the Pig Styes and around the entrance to The Bedrooms.
There’s also been good catches again this week at Ageston Sands in the Logan and the yabbie bank 500m north of Cabbage Tree Ramp.
Tailor have been consistent and while most are between one and two kilograms, every now and then one over three kilograms is caught, especially at night.
Reports indicate that the northern beaches including Teewah, Rainbow and Fraser Island are fishing best however there are still good fish being caught off Moreton and both Stradbroke islands.
Mulloway catches have improved with quite a few fish over the minimum size caught this week.
The prime areas have been bar entrances – Kalinga Bank to the Pin Bar and in the Southport Seaway but deeper holes in rivers and creeks have also produced results.
Marks Rocks on the bottom of the tide, Giant’s Grave and the nearby drains from Browns Bay on the run out tide and the deeper water at Rocky Point are all consistent producers.
There are no reports of big snapper again this week. There were lots of fish to 45cm from the artificial reefs in the Bay, mostly caught in the early morning.
On the offshore scene, dolphinfish have turned up on the Wave Rider buoy off Point Lookout, the average size has been excellent.
On the freshwater scene, North Pine Dam fishing is well although there are no numbers of redclaw in Somerset Dam as yet.
Queensland Water Police want the thousands of boaties heading out on waterways on the school holidays to make sure they know how to handle safety gear.
People should be familiar and know how to handle gear before leaving shore.
