If there was ever a fairytale wedding in the Redlands, the story of Kylie Taylor and Troy Beaven is it.
It is a tale of young love lost for nearly 30 years, only to be brought back together by happenchance through, of all places, a Google Image search.
Kylie and Troy first met at Albany Creek in primary school and started going out in Year 9, but when Kylie’s parents decided to cruise around the world in a yacht and take her with them, the relationship ended.
It was 1982; the last time they would see each other for 29 years.
Fast forward to 2011 and add in a Google Image search by Troy and the next thing the couple knew they were in contact for the first time since they were 14.
“I was living in London with my two boys. We wrote to each other every day for several months before meeting up - the sparks flew,” Kylie said.
“The years melted away. We had a long distance relationship, meeting up every three or four months. I finally immigrated back to Australia in late 2016.”
Nothing could stop the couple from finally having their special day; not even a near death accident. Just six weeks before the wedding, Troy was involved in a workplace accident in which he broke 16 ribs, punctured a lung and had several small back bone fractures.
Despite being advised to postpone the wedding, Troy was determined to marry Kylie as planned.
“His sheer determination, bravery and love for me meant he was able to stand at the altar and marry his childhood sweetheart,” Kylie said.
THE PROPOSAL
Troy surprised Kylie with a weekend away in Sydney in July 2016. He proposed on top of the Sydney Harbour Bridge at dusk.
WEDDING THEME
Beach glamour. There were fairy lights and lanterns, white furniture, fire pit and a distressed wooden beach bar.
THE DRESS
London designer Suzanne Neville created the off-the-shoulder design, which was matched with a simple lace bolero jacket.
THE WEDDING DAY
With Troy being in love with Staddie for more than 30 years, it was a natural fit for the location.
The couple exchanged vows at Headland Park at 3pm by celebrant Sheryl Gotje. Kylie walked down the aisle with her sons, Alec and Danny, by her side.
The reception was held at the Point Lookout Lifesaving Club, organised by Donna Shannon and the team at Stradbroke Island Events.
The 110 guests were treated to hot and cold canapes and food boxes by Whales Way - Matt and Bobby.
The most memorable part of the day was when Troy took the microphone and sang I Can’t Take my Eyes Off of You, the Muse version of Frankie Valli’s song with the band accompanying.
