A UTILITY driver on his way to Redland Bay’s rubbish tip needed emergency help when his waste cargo caught fire.
A Queensland Police Services spokesperson said it was believed the garbage, which was packed into the ute’s tray, could have been lit by a cigarette butt thrown from a passing vehicle.
The spokesperson said the the man, who travelled from Victoria Point on Saturday, September 23, pulled over on Giles Road about 11am after becoming aware of the incident.
A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokesperson said one crew attended to extinguish the fire, leaving after about 20 minutes.
