Year 6 students proved their mettle in the business world with the school’s inaugural ‘Kidprenuer’ program, launched with a market stall on October 5.
As a part of the challenge they have been meeting once a week to formulate their own small business idea where they had to develop a product, its packaging and branding.
The students have worked in teams of three over 12 weeks on the Kidpreneur program, beginning with a problem to solve and finding a marketable solution to this problem. The issues all related to the local community.
Examples of potential business solutions include StressLess, a business which offers children slime as a way of relaxing and taking time out.
Smooky Woodz is a business that sells hand-made inspirational or comedy-based signs to enable people in the community to stop and take time to think.
Captured Magic was also created to solve the issue of toys in landfill. It proposes the reuse of old toys and turning them into something magical and beautiful. The business titled The Dream Keeper is to help those children who have nightmares by making gorgeous dream catchers.
“I learnt that having your own business is so fun and creative because you are solving problems and putting smiles on people’s faces by providing people with amazing products,” student Indira Ricketts said.
“I found Kidpreneur very fun and exciting. I learned that owning a business would be worth the hard work,” student Angus Wilkie said.
“This was an amazing experience and I learnt a lot of valuable things, like how to start a business and how to maintain a business too. Overall it was really fun,” student Jorja James said.
“The Kidpreneur challenge has helped me to understand what being an entrepreneur is like and has taught me many lifelong entrepreneur skills,” student Emerson Harris said.
