Aerobic gymnast Dana Henley has gained a second place at the Australian Aerobic Gymnastics Championships, held in Bendigo Victoria From September 20 to 24.
Henley,22, of Capalaba who trains and coaches at Redland City Gymsports, Cleveland.
Henley originally started participating in aerobic gymnastics as a child, with her focus on team routines. She took an eight-year hiatus from the sport (coaching during this time but not competing) until in 2016, she decided to take to the floor again – this time competing solo.
She has competed at a national level on three occasions: once as a child as part of a group routine, once in 2016 where she placed seventh and once this year, where she took out the Level 5 Senior Individual silver medal at the 2017 Australian Aerobic Gymnastics Championships in Bendigo
Dana was one of the three State Team Captains heading into this year’s Australian Aerobic Gymnastics Championships in September. She was also Queensland State Team mascot dressed as the Queensland Panda throughout the event
Queensland athletes earned a podium placing in 23 of the 31 categories entered, taking out nine gold medals, 11 silver medals and 10 bronze medals. A handful of athletes were also selected to represent Australia on the national squad.
