A man is fighting for his life in hospital after being "ejected" from his truck in a crash on the Bruce Highway on Monday morning.
Emergency services were called to the scene in Burpengary East about 6.30am after a semi-trailer lost control near the Arthur Drewett Drive overpass, veering from the left lane across the other two lanes and hitting the concrete median barrier.
Police said the driver's door came open and the man in his 50s was "ejected" from the vehicle onto the road.
The truck continued south along the highway for about 300 metres before stopping in the right-hand lane, avoiding other traffic.
The driver and sole occupant was taken to the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital in a critical condition with significant head injuries.
A High Acuity Response Unit and critical care paramedic travelled with the victim to hospital.
Traffic was backed up along Bruce Highway to Caboolture and cleared later in the morning, but drivers caught in the congestion said their commutes took twice as long as usual.
The Forensic Crash Unit was investigating and police were appealing for any witnesses or those who may have dashcam vision to make contact.
