AS a child Cleveland resident Edna Cox was always adventurous, according to her family.
Nothing has changed now that she is in her later years.
Cleveland Gardens diversional therapist Lorraine Holmes said that even though Edna had just turned 100, family members found that carers still had trouble keeping up with her when she stepped out down the corridor.
“She has a wheelie walker which her doctor advised her to get and when he found she wan’t using it, he told her to get a walking stick which she purchased and carried out of the chemist tucked under her arm,” family members said.
“When asked why she wasn’t using it, her reply was ‘but someone might see me and think that I am old’.”
Ms Cox, nee Drew, was born in Brisbane on October 28, 1917.
She was the second eldest of five children.
“She was the most adventurist of all her siblings, walking around the top of tennis courts and standing up to come down the slippery dip into the old (Fortitude) Valley swimming pool until she was banned,” they said.
Ms Drew married Owen Cox on December 14, 1940.
They had three children, six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Ms Cox has a great love of animals, often pausing to pat dogs in the street.
Ms Holmes said Freedom Aged Care organised a helicopter ride and family lunch at Sirromet to help Ms Cox celebrate her birthday.
A concert and birthday celebrations were also held at Cleveland Gardens.
