Redlands produced a mixed bag of results on the weekend and will need to play well next Saturday to walk away from the current round with points in the bag.
The Redlands Tigers women’s side defeated Western Suburbs on Ron Field Oval last Sunday. The ladies chased down the opposition’s total of 195 with 5 wickets left in the shed in the 40th over. Kate McDonald top scored with an unbeaten 67 off just 44 deliveries, while with the ball it was Clodagh Ryall (3/16) and Delyse Laycock (3/39) who led the way for Redlands.
First Grade are in the middle of an arm wrestle with Gold Coast in their two-day clash on Peter Burge Oval. The Tigers will resume with the score on 1/44 next Saturday in pursuit of the opposition’s 277. James Bazley (4/37) was instrumental in the Tigers bowling innings, while Jon Stimpson and skipper Steven Moss also chipped in with two wickets each.
Second Grade lost first-innings to Gold Coast on Saturday, but have the opportunity to claim an outright victory if they claw back the ascendency next weekend. Redlands were dismissed for 124 in the first innings, with Jason Grosvenor and captain Craig Weier top scoring with 28 each. The Gold Coast were 4/233 at the close of play, a little over a hundred runs ahead.
Third Grade have also lost first innings and will require a big effort next week to fight back and win the game outright. The Tigers were dismissed for 126 in the first innings, with James Carr 36 and Michael McEwan 27 the top run scorers. Gold Coast were 2/138 at the close of play.
The Fourth Grade batsmen have put their side in a great position heading into day two next weekend against the Gold Coast. Redlands were dismissed for a highly competitive 249 thanks in large part to Taylor Cue, who scored an unbeaten 70, Jacob Apted (40), Dan Edridge (38) and Mitch Davis (35). The Tigers will be looking to take 10 wickets next weekend to claim first innings points.
Fifth Grade one toiled hard in the oppressive heat on Peter Burge Oval last Sunday to dismiss Northern Suburbs for 197. Mitch Jensen starred with the ball, claiming four wickets for 30 runs from 10 overs. Matt Short (2/31) provided able support and continued his stellar run of form, while the remaining bowlers chipped in with a wicket each along the way. Redlands, who are currently 3/19 in reply, will need to fight hard with bat in hand to claim first innings points next weekend.
Fifth Grade two also piled on the runs away from home last Saturday. The Tigers made the opposition chase leather as they racked up 264 by the close of play. Matt Fay top scored with a sublime 70, while Pat McKerr (57) and Matt Wheeler (41*) both made vital contributions.
Sixth Grade one will need to take a further 7 wickets against Valley to claim first innings points next Saturday. The Tigers were dismissed for 104, with Chris O’Shea (51) the top scorer. O’Shea is also the leading wicket taker as the game currently stands, while Scott Butters also picked up a vital scalp. Valley were 3/68 when stumps were called on day one.
Sixth Grade two dismissed the opposition for 277 in the final over of the day. Jason Lau and Ryan Short took three wickets each and were the pick of the Redlands bowlers. The Tigers will return to Ron Field Oval next week hoping to chase down the required runs and claim first innings points.
The Lord’s Taverners side earned a fantastic victory over Western Suburbs away from home on Sunday. The Tigers bowlers came out firing after sending the opposition into bat and dismissed them for just 82 in the 34th over. Andy Matinez-Harris claimed the impressive figures of 4/20 from 9 overs, while Sam Geyer and Jayden Grant also chipped in with two wickets each. The Tigers chased down the required runs in the 33rd over when it came their time to bat. Stephan Muller (35*) and Dylan Kritzinger (21) were the pick of the Redlands batsmen.
The Shane Watson Cup side continued their unbeaten run against South Brisbane on Sunday. The Tigers dismissed the opposition for 159 thanks to some fine bowling from Gunnit Singh and Ethan Hemingray, who both took two wickets. The Redlands batsmen made light work of the opposition’s total, chasing it down in the 39th over with just three batsmen back in the shed. Luke Davies top scored with an unbeaten 83, while Matt Casey also passed fifty.
