REDLANDERS have frocked-up for the Melbourne Cup, proving a distance of more than 1500 kilometres is no barrier to enjoying a party.
While the “race that stops the nation” might delight punters, a luncheon organised by Zonta Club of Wynnum Redlands had nobler aims.
President Ange Hill said she hoped up to $2000 would be raised from a gathering of more than 60 people at Redlands Sporting Club held today from noon.

The fun was hosted in the sporting club’s function room, with meals and drinks served alongside entertainment by band Band Mama Juju & The Jam Tarts.
Ms Hill said the money raised would be split between the Redlands Centre for Women, Zonta and crises services including Silky Oaks and Maybanke.
