Two triathletes from Ormiston have turned in top performances in the water, on the bike and in running shoes to win the Noosa Triathlon earlier this month.

Sheldon Triathlon Club members, Annabel White and Shaun Earp both won their respective Olympic distance events at the Noosa Triathlon last weekend, White winning the Open Women’s race, while Earp, a Year 12 student at Sheldon College won the 15 to 19 years male event.

Director of the Shledon College Academy of Sport David Savage, said the victory was a testament to both the dedication of the athletes and the guidance of their coaches Chris Lang and Matt Bury.

“Both athletes have their sights set on following in the footsteps of club mate Joanne Miller and competing internationally on the pro circuit, they truly deserve every success they achieve,” he said.

Mr Savage said the college and the club are immensely proud of the athletes’ Noosa success.

“It means a great deal to the Sheldon Triathlon club and broader Sheldon Academy of Sport to have two of our athletes win the famed Noosa Triathlon, mainly as it provides reinforcement to our athletes that they are on the right track, but also as it provides public validation of the quality of our product,” he said.

“Shaun and Annabel, and students like Joanne Miller before them, were not triathletes when they started their schooling at Sheldon College, but were attracted to the program we set up, and moved across from running or swimming, and now the results are there for all to see.

“The wider Sheldon Triathlon Club community has provided invaluable support in all sorts of ways, from providing moral support, to helping each other with transport and accommodation when competing at events.”

Based at Sheldon College, the Sheldon Triathlon Club, caters for the wider Redlands community, and operates a professional coaching under experienced head coach Matt Bury.

Teenage athletes from a number of local schools are involved in the program, as are adults who range from those after general fitness improvement to those entering into and competing in world championships.
