BAYVIEW State School students have adopted the “think globally, act locally” mantra to help Rotary Club of Redland Sunrise curb climate change.
A club spokesperson said 30 native saplings were planted by children last month as part of the club’s international tree planting project.
The program was established after Rotary International president Ian H S Riseley encouraged the organisation’s 1.2 million members to reduce carbon dioxide levels by planting a tree.

“Mr Riseley saw the responsibility of Rotarians being not only to the people of the planet, but to the planet itself,” the spokesperson said.
The club’s mission was supported by Bayview State School principal Peter Black who requested one tree for each class, with the first sapling planted by school captains Amy Weeks and LeRoux Jordan on Tuesday, October 24.
The Rotary Club of Redland Sunrise meets at Thornland’s Dance Palais on Wednesday mornings.
