SEE and hear what the Redlands candidates have to say ahead of the Queeensland election on November 25.
All candidates running for Redlands were approached by Redland City Bulletin for a video and written statement on their policies.
Candidates are listed in the order their names will appear on the ballot.
David Keogh – The Greens
I joined the Greens in 2010 out of frustration with the two major parties, who promised a lot, delivered very little, and had no vision for the future of this great country. The gap between rich and poor has progressively widened since I came to Queensland with my family in 1982.
I have stood in previous elections on wanting to see greater investment in public transport. Congestion is becoming so bad in south-east Queensland that it is impacting on economic productivity and lifestyle. It is time for a radical change. The Greens initiative is to bring the cost of public transport down, increase frequency and not spend billions on mega-road projects which only create more traffic. This would be a great initiative for the Southern Moreton Bay Islands, where car parking has become a nightmare.
I would like to see reduced homelessness by building more townhouse style accommodation for the homeless and the needy. These would need to be based around a community hub with open space and amenities at walking distance. There are many under-utilised industrial and government owned sites that could be put to this use. This would provide a job-creation stimulus for local tradesmen and contractors.
Peter Dowling
Elections should be a clash of ideas. What have you seen from the major parties that will have a positive impact on your life? We see a never-ending list of projects that were not possible yesterday, now possible with caveats.
These commitments have more strings than a kite factory and some are just false. My campaign outlines significant policy benefits that can be delivered at little or no cost to the budget and can begin to arrest runaway debt.
With five candidates to choose from two have experience in the role, but only one has delivered consistently, Peter Dowling.
As an independent I will be outspoken and raise matters that are important to residents with no party constraints.
I am putting myself forward because I love where I live, we need a champion who can, and will fight for us. We have missed out for the last three years.
Roads, cost of living, a high school in southern Redlands, a police station in Victoria Point, seniors travel free off peak, a dedicated SMBI plan and many more policies are posted on my Facebook page, Redlands Balance of Power.
Join my fight, no petitions, no empty promises. This time vote for you, not a party.
Kim Richards – Australian Labor Party
This election there is a real choice and an important decision for Redlanders to make.
We need a strong honest voice for Redlands, someone who will fight to properly address our growing issues and provide a better future for our community.
Our region has enormous potential. While we face growing issues with congestion on our roads and lack of job opportunities we also have abundant untapped economic and social potentials that can be the foundation for creating better outcomes for the Redlands.
We all remember the cuts and drama unleashed by the Newman/Nicholls LNP Government. We can’t risk going back to the days when they ripped away jobs and frontline services from the Redlands.
I have the experience and knowledge to develop solutions to the problems we now face and the challenges that our future will hold. Working together with all levels of government and the community I know that we can fix our roads, get better community infrastructure and create jobs in our region for a better Redlands.
We live in the most spectacular part of south-east Queensland with access to our magnificent Southern Moreton Bay Islands.
It is time for a better Redlands.
Jason Quick – One Nation
Mr Quick was approached by Redland City Bulletin for a 30 second video and text about his policies but no submission was received.
Matt McEachan – LNP’s incumbent member
This election is about Redlanders. As the LNP candidate I am the only choice for a clear cohesive plan to get the investment we need and lower the cost of electricity.
Firstly, an LNP Government will fix Cleveland-Redland Bay road, from Boundary Road, Redland Bay, upgrading Double Jump Road and Anita Street intersections all the way to South Street, Cleveland. The LNP will get you home safer and sooner.
An LNP Government will put more police on the beat in local stations and we’ll invest in local schools and the Redlands Hospital. An LNP Government will build safer, better supported communities.
An LNP Government will lower the cost of electricity for Redlanders, our energy plan will save Redlands families up to $780 over the next three years from January 1, 2018.
Only the LNP will build a better Redlands.
