Reflecting on a year of outstanding achievement
Ormiston College students can look back on 2017 with pride and satisfaction.
Their effort and determination has allowed the college to end the year on a high. Whilst success starts with a single step, it certainly gathers momentum when students harness the opportunities available to them.
Redland’s strongest performing academic school
Australia’s NAPLAN data provides an opportunity to benchmark the college’s progress and staff were delighted that students from Year 3 to Year 9 achieved outstanding results in literacy and numeracy; providing the college with its highest outcomes to date.
The college also received exceptional results in several external examinations. It was once again proud to receive recognition from The Educator Magazine as one of Australia’s most innovative schools, for the third consecutive year.

This, along with the status of being Greater Brisbane’s only Microsoft Showcase School, secures the college’s reputation as a trail blazer in innovative teaching and learning.
Redland’s most distinctive cultural offerings
Ormiston College’s students revelled in the opportunity to shine in their presentation of this year’s sold out biennial college musical; plus enjoy interstate success in music competitions and Trinity College, London examinations, both in speech and drama and in music.
There was also success in local eisteddfods; not surprising given more than 300 students participate in private instrumental or vocal lessons per week and more than 500 students form part of the more than 20 co-curricular music ensembles within the college.
Redland’s best sporting school
Sport has given our students the opportunity to compete at a top level.
The college is one of only eight schools (as of 2018) included in TAS, Queensland’s premiere co-educational Sporting Competition.
This year the college set the bar high as the best performing school for the year in Saturday sport across the three trimesters producing 23 champion teams.
Its Junior TAS program also thrived with a 91 per cent participation rate.
Providing opportunities for students to serve
The college is proud of students’ commitment to continue to build on their strong sense of helping others through community service.
This year they have assisted in collections for the Night Ninjas program, fund-raised for the BABI Charity and supported the Sycamore School for Autistic Children, to name just a few.
It has been a very busy year filled with hard work, great achievement, fun, laughter, school spirit and camaraderie
